The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) on Wednesday, November 29 in Abuja outlined the weather forecast across Nigeria from Thursday, November 30 to Saturday, December 2, 2023, with a focus on varying weather patterns and potential precautions for the public.
NiMet has indicated that the northern region is expected to experience sunny and hazy skies throughout the forecast period, while the north-central region can anticipate a mix of sunny skies with patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere.
Meanwhile, the southern inland states and coastal areas may encounter cloudy skies in the morning with the likelihood of thunderstorms later in the day, particularly in certain states.
Moreover, NiMet has advised caution due to the presence of dust haze over the northern region on Friday, while the North Central region could expect sunny and hazy skies with few clouds.
Similar to the southern regions, the inland states and coastal areas may encounter cloudy skies in the morning, with the possibility of localized thunderstorms later in the day in specific states.
Looking ahead to Saturday, NiMet has forecasted a continuation of dust haze over the northern region, as well as a repeat of sunny skies with patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere for the north-central region.
Additionally, the inland states and coastal areas of the South may experience cloudy skies in the morning, with potential thunderstorms later in the day in specific states.
In response to these weather conditions, NiMet has urged the public to take necessary precautions, especially for individuals with asthma and respiratory issues.
The agency has also emphasized the potential for moderate to heavy rainfall leading to flash floods, thus advising caution and avoidance of driving and walking through flood waters.
Furthermore, NiMet has issued safety recommendations for airline operators and disaster risk managers to stay proactive in a bid to prevent loss of lives and property during the rainy season.
It has also encouraged individuals to stay updated on weather reports for effective planning and safety measures.
