The Jigawa state governor Malam umar namadi has given approval to the state’s ministry of environment take immediate measures to avert flooding this year.
This was contained in a statement signed and made it available to newsmen by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Shuaibu Rabo Ringim.
According to the statement, the governor gave the directives during a briefing with Commissioner of Environment, Dr Nura Ibrahim and officials of the ministry.
The governor said the measures were necessary to curtail the menace of flooding which occured yearly as well as to protect the life and property of the citizens.
Malam Umar Namadi also directed for the relocation of all working material for the immediate embankment of frontline areas across the state.
The governor said a nine member committee was formed to go around and solicit for the support and cooperation of all the communities
While making his speech, the Commissioner of Environment, Dr Nura Ibrahim said officials of the ministry already conducted an assessment visit to all front line areas with a view to identify measures to curtail the flood.
Also speaking the permanent secretary of the ministry, Dr Abdullahi namadi said he contacted officials from yobe state for collaboration in the areas of embankment from Jigawa State corridor.
