Residents of Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Local Government Development Area of Lagos State, including market women, artisans, civil servants and students, on Monday, at the LCDA Secretariat, enjoyed a one-day awareness action training on climate change.
The well-attended training event organised by Vaness Integrated Resources Limited in conjunction with Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA, was unanimously described as timely and life-changing by the excited participants.
According to the convener of the programme, Environmental and Youth Advocate, Mr Monday Kanu, “It is important we take into cognisance the degradation of our environment due to climate change. And this has affected every sphere of our lives negatively.”
Kanu, a former Nigeria international footballer, advised that all hands must be on deck in this onerous challenge to save the planet. Even he urged the participants to expect thoroughly rewarding sessions with the top quality resource persons on the ground.
Vice Chairman of the LCDA, Hon. Seyi Jakande, who represented the Chairman of the LCDA Hon.Rasaq Ajala, while welcoming the participants to the programme, highlighted the effects of climate change in our lives, which included incessant heat being felt in the atmosphere, as well as, serious dehydration, being experienced by the people.
The participants were taken through a very interactive climate change awareness action training by a top-quality resource team that included, Dr Raimot Titilade Akanmu, a Research Fellow at the Centre For Environmental Studies and Sustainability Development, Lagos State University; Dr. Chinenye Lilian Okafor, also a Research Fellow at the Centre For Environmental Studies and Sustainability Development ( CESSD), Lagos State University, and Professor Michael Adetunji Nunayon, AHOVE, who is a Research Professor of Climate Change at the CESSD, Lagos State University.
The Council’s Manager Mrs. Afolake Otenaike, on her part, tasked the participants to take home, and also pass the knowledge acquired at the programme to their families and friends, for the benefit of the the community.
