Ahead of the 257th edition of its Annual Conference, the Officials and Members of the Forestry Association of Nigeria (FAN) on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the Special Adviser, Office of Political, Legislative & Civic Engagement, Dr. Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen and Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Bisola Olusanya at the Secretariat, Alausa.

Welcoming the delegation to his office, the Special Adviser, Office of Political, Legislative & Civic Engagement, Dr. Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen wished the Association a fruitful deliberation at its Annual Conference coming up soon.

Dr. Afolabi, who is also the current President of the Association, charged the body to chart a new course and organise various programmes that will bring about a more friendly forestry climate and economically stable society.

Similarly, while addressing the delegation, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Bisola Olusanya said the Forestry sector is being undermined in Nigeria with minimal support despite being one of the key sectors running the Nigerian economy.

Assuring the Association of the support of the State Government, Olusanya pointed out that there is a lot of potential in forestry that needs to be tapped into and advised that more attention should be paid to such areas especially as it affects climate change in the world.

Responding, the Association assured the Commissioner that steps and measures will be taken to ensure that the forestry sector in Nigeria gets the attention it deserves while pushing for more supportive policies that will promote a thriving and sustainable forestry sector for the preservation and development of Nigeria’s forests.

Some of the members of the Association present during the include Academicians, Professors and Past Commissioners from various Ministries, Institutions and Agencies in Lagos and Nigeria.
